BOKO HARAM; ABDUCTORS OF THE NATION
Nigeria
the giant of Africa, the most populous black nation and a force in the
continent. Insecurity has invaded the 53 year old independent nation despite
the large sum allocated to security yearly and the strength of the high ranked
Nigeria army.
Insecurity
now poses as a grave danger to the stability of the nation; Boko Haram in the
nation now is a name that makes the heart beats faster due to several attacks
and bombings in the nation. The ‘Movement’ which has seemed unbeatable has
estimated claimed over 12,000 life and wounded 8,000.
The
sect leader, Abubakar Shekau uploaded videos on youtube displaying the girls in
Sambisa forest and confirming responsibility of the abduction. This really
shocked the globe on how a terrorist group has the courage. Parents were
allowed by the government to check for identification of their daughter in order
to confirm the credibility of the abduction. They were shown putting on ‘Hijab’
and performing Islamic recitations forcefully.
April
15, 2014. Was the day ‘forgotten’ government college Chibok, Borno state school
girls were abducted.Parents of the globe have been with heavy Heart due to
daylight kidnapping by the Boko Haram sect who disguised as Nigeria army.
Several attempts have been made by #Bring Back Our Girls campaign both on
social media and staging of different protest to the government house in Abuja.
Assistance from different Nations like U.S, Russia have all prove abortive.
Another
round of abduction occurred two month ago in Kummabza, Borno state where more 60
women and girls were kidnapped during the cry for the release of the chibok
girls. The local populace nowadays now see Borno state slogan ‘Home of Peace’
as irony after attack and series of abduction.
The
terrorist Islamic sect on August 14 2014 visited Doron Boga in Borno and
abducted about 100 young men after an attack on the community. Boko Haram is
yet to take responsibility of the abduction as they have been doing recently.
The
sleeping government is to be held responsible for the insurgencies despite
several funds been allocated to the security department yearly. Recently the president
demands a 1billion dollars loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to
fight the sect.
Are
we to say the government has not learnt their lessons from the chibok abduction?
Why do we still have further abduction? Are they not aware of the popular maxim
“Once Bitten Twice Shy”? Is Boko Haram short of men by abducting more? Is the
Nigeria Army so weak that they can curb this bad behavior? This is a tragic
film that Nigeria and the world is still watching?
