EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE: A DOOM FOR THE EDUCATION SECTOR

The continuous decline in the nation's standard of education in recent years is a situation that saddens the heart and needs to be addressed quickly, particularly the issue of examination malpractice.
Exam malpractice is a parasite that has eaten deeply into the education sector and has rendered most certificates issued by institutions and schools in our society as invalid. It is quite worrisome that in spite of the damage malpractice has caused and is still causing to our education stake holders have done little or nothing to checkmate the situation.
In February 2012 the senate placed a ban on miracle centers across the nation, yet these centers are still all over town. It seems an average Nigerian student cannot write an examination without been involved in a form of malpractice. The unfortunate thing about this is that our nation will continue to produce half-baked graduate into the labour market until some drastic measures are taking by stakeholders to address the situation.
A major reason why examination malpractice has become a common trend in our generation is laziness on the part of students to study. A large percentage of students now find it difficult to set aside two hours daily for their studies instead they occupy themselves with unnecessary activities such as chatting and sharing gist when they should be reading.
Although students have a major part to play when it comes to being diligent, parent still have their roles to play. Parents are supposed to help their children develop good reading habit from childhood, by checking to know how well their child is faring academically and how much more effort still needs to be put in by the child.
