As normal academic session commence at
the Lagos state university (LASU) The students of the university express their
unhappy mood on the just concluded internal strike caused by the fees hike by
the Lagos State Government.
According to Adebayo Michael, a 400level
student of the faculty of social science expressed his frustration. “The strike
has affected me nearly in every aspect. I practically feel like 3months have
been deleted out of my life already. I mean, I would have been a graduate today
and possible serving my fatherland. In as much as i have been able to do a few
things, i would have done a lot more if i have graduated as scheduled. I am
losing flair for academics. No thanks to the school management and the state
government."
On the part of Osunkoya Olawale of the faculty of law the strike has shattered my plans and yet i cannot plan further. It has made me less enthusiastic about reading and education. In session, schooling makes the mind active and searching. But the strike has made me lazy and dull. He further said the strike has successfully disturbed the academic calendar placing other schools ahead of ours. The school authority are also not helping situation at all, turning deaf hear to the desire of the student.
Also, the staffs of the
institution are not left out; they also showed their frustration on the
constants strike issue in the institution and also the inability of the school
management to fulfill their promises to them as staffs of the institution. The issue
is based on two issues which are NO PROMOTION! NO VACANCY!! And RETIREMENT AGE
that the school authority brought up which is not accepted by the staff.
According to Mrs. Aderenle Arike a staff from the faculty of education say's "The strike is not favorable to the institution and its image. She also said that the strike also lead to the management refusal to pay their salaries. She further said the institution management should look into the issue and resolve the pending issue in the institution in other to restore peace n normality to the institution.
