A
female trader identified as Madam Pere was battered by the Divisional Police
Officer in charge of Oko-Oba Police Station, Mr. Akintade Williams, on Tuesday
night at Olayinwola road Abule-Egba.
According
to the woman, after the workday she was going home when suddenly the DPO who
was on patrol of the area ordered her to come to him.
And
as soon as she approached him, the policemen just pounced on her as if they
were having problems before.
Then
he tore her clothes, punched her in the face, destroyed victim's cell phone and
took all the sales proceeds she was bringing home.
Later
on Madam Pere has reported the attack to the State Commissioner of Police,
Umaru Manko and referred to Ikeja General Hospital for treatment.
The
incident caused widespread outrage.
An
anonymous resident of Abule-Egba said the attitude of Williams since he took the
post of the DPO of Oko-Oba is troublesome and unacceptable.
And
the way the DPO behaves does not correspond to his position.
Residents
expressed outrage as they do not understand how a DPO could beat up a harmless
trader for no reason.
When
contacted the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the state Police
Command, Mr. Damasus Ozoani to speak on the matter, he directed the reporter to
the PPRO, Mrs. Ngozi C Braide.
She
could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
It
was gathered that last year Williams battered a police corporal attached to his
house for going out to eat on a Sunday.
