How We All Want To Be Like Every Achiever

by Ogundimu Omolabake Saidat

In our world today, all youth wants to be like one successful person or another. Yet all they do is laze around doing nothing but say I want to be like M.K.O Abiola, Wole Soyinka, Femi Otedola and the likes of this people. Do you know what it takes to be like this people? Or what it takes to be where they were or are today? If you do not, please sit back and read about a global achiever born and breed of our soils.A great playwright and poet was brought to this world on July 13, 1934. His name is oluwole Soyinka, Soyinka was born into a Yoruba family, a descendant of a Remo family in Abeokuta, ogun state in Nigeria, a time of British dominion.

After his primary schooling in st peters primary school in Abeokuta, he went to Abeokuta grammar school where he won several awards for his literary composition .however during studies at the university college in Ibadan which was affiliated with the university of London, he began has first ever work with a radio play for Nigerian broadcasting service.

Still while at the university, Soyinka and six others founded the pirates confraternity, an anti corruption and justice seeking organization. After this fraternity, Soyinka moved around and made great impact with is writing. On his becoming chief cathedral of drama at the university, he becomes more politically active. He was however imprisoned for 22 months and still he still wrote a significant body of poems and notes criticizing the government.

At 80 years of age, Soyinka is still a force to reckon with, which promoted Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, rivers State Governor to describe hi m as a global achiever at a dinner held in his honour at a banquet ball of the government house.

Explaining that Soyinka’s achievements spanned the globe and that Soyinka was however only able to attain such feat as a result of hard work and persistence. Governor Amaechi said “you have in the midst of our so many bad news brought Nigeria honour, this is because even the football that we were very good in those days is no more ,the country is in disarray. But you have remained consistent in the literary world. Reading begets writing and you must understand what you are writing about “He said Nigeria needs the experience and wealth of knowledge of literary icon to get out of troubled waters.

Wole Soyinka persistence and hard work led him this far with education from not just school, his parent and the society and himself accepting this knowledge and using them. For him to be where he is today, he read ,wrote ,became politically active, he was brutalized in prison for 22 years and his other many attributes included justice, fair play ,dignity for human society and faith in good governance which by far excluded any form of tribalism and plagiarism.

Do you want to lose your parent, family, friend or any body part, do you want to be beaten and imprisoned for years perhaps, if yes then you can wish to be like every rich, successful and popular person on earth. If No, never wish onto yourself what other has gone through rather pray for such hard work, knowledge, persistence and consistence and be your own person and give to your country what it takes to swim out of their troubled water heads up?
